Asalamu ‘alaikum warahmatula wabarakatuhu.

This week’s lesson is on Tanween or commonly known as Nunation.

Insha allah, we always begin with our dua:

Allaahumma laa sahla ‘illaa maal ja’altahu sahlan wa ‘Anta taj’alul-hazna ‘ithaa shi’ta sahlan.

‘O Allah, there is no ease other than what You make easy. If You please, You ease sorrow.’

  • Tanween is the name given to the group:
  • These vowels combine both the harakah and sukoon in one symbol.
  • The harakah is read first and then the letter with sukoon, as illustrated below.

  Fat-ha-taan أَنْ an بً ban ﺑَﻦْ ban
Dhamma-taan أُنْ un بٌ bun ﺑُﻦْ bun
Kasra-taan إِنْ in بٍ bin ﺑِﻦْ bin

Insha Allah please watch this video to help with pronunciation although I believe the above examples should suffice.
