Ammā Ba’d: (In the name of Allah سبحانه وتعالى and blessings upon the messenger ﷺ )
One of the tenets of Iman (faith), is to have tawakkul (complete reliance of Allah سبحانه وتعالى ) . This means putting our trust in Allah سبحانه وتعالى in all situations.
With the recent attacks in London, I have received quite an overwhelming number of messages from concerned relatives and friends, advising me to stay safe. It has always been at the back of my mind that it is only Allah سبحانه وتعالى that decrees. I have complete trust in Allah سبحانه وتعالى and believe that only Allah سبحانه وتعالى can ward off any harm against me and ready to accept any results that may happen by His permission.
However, as much as I know that ultimate decisions lie in the hands of Allah سبحانه وتعالى alone, it shouldn’t and doesn’t mean that one should stop praying and work towards achieving goals in life.
With that, I try to not stay outside my home after Maghrib and try to avoid alleyways as much as possible too.
In addition, I combine my trust and efforts in trying to stay safe (while knowing nothing can harm me by the will of Allah سبحانه وتعالى and know that what is meant to be shall be) with a great powerful tool called DUA (supplication).
I have memorised the dua when leaving the home which is from an authentic hadeeth and just can’t leave my front door without reciting it.
Dua Upon Going Out of the Home
The Messenger of Allah (Sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: Whoever says – upon going out of his home:
Bismillãh, tawakkaltu `alã ‘allãh, lã hawla wa lã quwwata ‘illã bil-lãhi ta`ãla,
[I put my trust in Allah, there is neither might nor strength, except by Allah, the Most High]
it is said to him:
“You have been sufficed, protected, and guided, and the shaytan would move aside from him, then say to another shaytan: What access do you have to a man that has been guided, sufficed, and protected?”
Reported by Abu dawood, An-Nisã’ee , and At-Tirmithi and he said it was comely-sound. Al-Albãni said it is as At-Tirmithi said; rather, he said, it is sound, and he said that Ibn Hibbãn also reported it in his Saheeh. Al-Albãni included this hadeeth in The Authentic of Good Sayings as #44.
If you haven’t already, my advice is to memorise this great dua and have tawakkul on Allah سبحانه وتعالى when leaving your houses bearing in mind that:
“No calamity befalls on the earth or in yourselves but it is inscribed in the Book of Decrees (Al‑Lawh Al‑Mahfooz) before We bring it into existence. Verily, that is easy for Allaah”
“And whosoever fears Allaah and keeps his duty to Him, He will make a way for him to get out (from every difficulty).
3. And He will provide him from (sources) he never could imagine”
