Sitting down all cosy and wrapped up in my fleece while it’s raining outside, prompted me to do a recap on the light upon light winter conference I attended yesterday.
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “Allah, the Exalted, has teams of angels who go about on the roads seeking those who remember Allah. When they find some people remembering Allah they call to one another and say, ‘Come to what you are looking for;’ and they surround them with their wings till the space between them and the lowest sky is fully covered…..
With the line up of speakers, you can tell I was excited to attend it for the second time for some inspirational reminders. So without rambling, here are some few reminders from the conference which I thought I’ll share insha Allah.
The theme for the day was knowing Allahسبحانه و تعالى
🌷Allah سبحانه و تعالى names and attributes.
We were encouraged to learn and know the 99 names and attributes of Allahسبحانه و تعالى and put them to practice… Allah سبحانه و تعالى created us, He blessed us with so much so why not love Him back by manifesting and using His names and attributes? The heartbeat in our chest, is a sign of Allah سبحانه و تعالى love for us. He is Al Wadud, the most loving. He is also Al Hakeem, the wise. He knows what’s best for us. We should pray to Him, ask Him , bear sabr and insha allah He will give us what’s best. There are times when we don’t even ask Allah but He provides for us from His bounties but yet, some remain ungrateful.
We ask Allah سبحانه و تعالى for what we want daily but how many times do we make istighfar? Say ‘Astaghfirullah’… One should seek istighfar for everything be it for marriage, children or halal sustenance and may Allah سبحانه و تعالى cleanse our hearts and grant us our heart desires. Ameeen
In our personal, professional or social lives, most engage a lot in backbiting, hatred or gossip… We should try and replace it by engaging in dhirk of Allah, reading the Qur’an and other acts of worship. (This was a great reminder for myself)
Most times, we doubt our intentions . This is usually when one is famous and wants to carry out an act of worship or simply, when we want to give da’wah. Usually, we find that we fear that we might appear as a show off but these are all tricks of shaytan. Don’t let him trick you into not spreading knowledge you learn about Islam. Seek refuge from him. Say ‘Aouthu billahi minashaytani rajeem’. However, one should remain humble at all times.
“Knowledge just like money, can make one arrogant. However, true knowledge humbles you” Mufti Ismail Menk lightuponlight 2016
🌷Imam Qassim Ahmad discussed the 5 pillars of Islam with the first pillar being the shahadah (testimony) and a bare minimum for a Muslim. He differentiated the shahadah from tawheed (oneness of Allah SWT) and further elaborated by discussing 5 supporting walls. dhikr (remembrance of Allah), tilawah (attentive reading/following of the Qur’an), tawbah (repentance), ikhlas (sincerity) and du’a (supplication).
Furthermore, to be attached to jannah, he mentioned that one needs to have 4 different rooms within themselves. These are : personal, social, professional and political :
🌸Personal life: one needs to have: taqwa (love and fear of Allah) tawakul (trust in Allah…. this is personal as a person only knows to what extent they have put their trust in Allah) and sabr (patience) … this goes hand in hand with Salah. We must pray and remain patient.
🌸Social life: we need to have salam (peace), ihsan (perfection) and shukr (thanks).
🌸Professional life: mawaddah (love), rahma (mercy) and forgiveness .
🌸Political life: justice , equality and brotherhood.
Although there were so many other helpful reminders, these were some I managed to write down for the benefit of others.
Mufti Ismail Menk also shared his ebook called motivational moments and you can find a link to it down below as well as some additional reading for you guys pertaining to the theme Knowing Allah.
Oh! I also picked up a leaflet ‘islamicgps’ from the donatequran stall . Do download the app on your phones insha allah for a quick show of where landmarks and masjids can be discovered around the world. I pray and hope you find the above useful.
